| Case: | Excellent case that has been polished in the past and has some scratches and wear from use. Inner case back is stamped: 1016. The caseback appears to be a later service replacement. Reference and serial number are legible between the lugs. Acrylic crystal shows light surface wear. |
| Dial: | The dial is in excellent condition with light patina and is overall clean. The dial and hands are later Luminova service replacements. |
| Bracelet: | Excellent stainless steel 7206 Oyster Rivet with 12 links and 58 end links. Back of Oysterclasp is stamped 1/66 which matches the case production. The bracelet is in overall excellent condition with light scratches and some stretch between the links. |

This Explorer is in overall vintage condition. The case and bracelet show some light wear and have been polished. The dial, hands, and caseback are later service replacements. The dial and hands are in excellent condition.

Rolex introduced the 1016 Explorer in 1959 and it was in production until 1989 making it one of the longest running produced references from the brand. At the beginning of the run Rolex made the dials glossy and then switched to the matte style around 1966.
The example we are offering here was born with a glossy dial and it was later changed to a matte service replacement. It was very common for Rolex to change and update watches when they come in for routine service and that is exactly what happened with this 1016. It's nice that the watch has retained it's correct rivet Oyster bracelet that is dated 1966 on the clasp. One neat thing about these service dials is that they offer a vintage matte look with the modern functionality of the lume still glowing.
