| Case: | Excellent case which has been previously polished and shows some wear from use. The case has scratches throughout. The caseback has some scratches that appear from opening the case. Watch comes with a later 1980s black bezel insert and it is in great condition with some scratches and wear. Serial and reference numbers are crisp and well defined. Inner case back is stamped: 1680 I.70. Acrylic crystal has light wear from use. |
| Dial: | Excellent matte black tritium Mark IV dial with warm creamy markers and matching service hands that have been painted to match. The dial shows a little wear around the edge at six o'clock. The date wheel is a later service replacement. |
| Bracelet: | Very good 9315 Oyster Fold-Over with 10 links, 280 end links and divers extension. The clasp shows some signs of polishing. This bracelet has a divers extension where Rolex spelled Patented wrong, it reads "Pateted." The bracelet shows stretch between the links with wear and some slight indentations dents from use. The back of the clasp is stamped 4/71, indicating it is from 1971 and matches the production date of the case. |

This Rolex watch is in vintage condition with wear to the bracelet, case, and bezel. The bracelet has slight stretch between the links, consistent with age. The dial is overall very clean with light patina and the red Submariner text has remained vibrant.

Rolex introduced the reference 1680 around 1969 and it was in production until roughly 1979. This was the first Submariner to feature the date function and Rolex still offers date and no-date models to this day. This example has the word "Submariner" written in red text and collectors refer to these as the "Red Submariner." Rolex did this until around 1975 and then they switched to all white text. Collectors tend to gravitate towards these Red Subs and we have seen demand increase significantly in the last couple years.
This watch features a Mark IV matte black dial. The Mark IV dial is distinguished by the feet first depth rating with open 6s and red Submariner text painted directly onto the dial. This example features it's original folded link bracelet with error divers extension. Rolex misspelled patented on the divers extension, it reads "Pateted." These error bracelets are becoming more sought after by collectors because they bring the watch to the next level of rarity.
