This Rolex watch is in great, honest vintage condition. The case is thick with scratches, wear, and some nicks. The case appears to have been lightly polished. The bezel ring has remained sharp and the black insert is in great condition with some wear and scratches. The pip at 12 is a later replacement. The matte dial is in great condition with light patina. The lume on the dial and in the hands has developed patina and aged to a lovely cream color. The hands and hour markers have developed patina. The bracelet is in good condition with wear and some stretch between the links. It shows signs of a light polish and or sleeve polish.

Rolex introduced ref. 5513 around 1962 and it was in production until 1989. It was one of the longest continually produced references from the brand. Rolex initially used glossy dials in this model and swapped to matte around 1966, like this example. Rolex made many variations of the matte dial and this circa 1982 example has a "Maxi" dial. Rolex made these "Maxi" dials from around 1978 to 1984. "Maxi" refers to the lume plots being larger than the ones on previous 5513s. This watch has a Mark IV dial and some characteristics of this mark would be the "Zig-Zag" style "S" in Submariner and the word Submariner above the depth rating. Collectors tend to gravitate towards these because of the subtle, yet more striking appearance.
This 5513 has a very cohesive look from the case to the bracelet and bezel, everything matches in terms of condition and has a great overall look and feel. In addition to being a great, honest example, this watch come directly from the family of the original owner.
